Sheriff Tommy W. Allen, Jr.
Tommy Allen served as Anson County Sheriff from 1978 to 1994. When elected he was the youngest Sheriff in the state and the youngest Sheriff ever elected in Anson County. Sheriff Allen returned to law enforcement when he was elected for a fifth term in 2002 and has been re-elected in 2006 and 2010.

He has served longer than any Sheriff in Anson County history. He is a graduate of Wingate College, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the FBI National Academy.

Prior to his first election as Sheriff, Sheriff Allen worked as a Deputy Sheriff and with the Wadesboro Police Department. During the eight years out of office he worked with architecture firms on jail and courthouse construction projects. Sheriff Allen said he decided to run again for election, because he saw a great need for leadership in the office of Sheriff in Anson County, and also because of his desire to return to public service.

Since taking office in December, 2002 he has completely redesigned the Sheriff and Jail operations, establishing policy and procedures where none previously existed. He has set up structure, chain of command and reorganized the administrative and support staff in both the Sheriff’s Office and the Jail. In July of 2008, the Sheriff took over the 911 Operations for the county.
